Another Reynard? New Featured Text

Reynard illuscrop

This illustration, from a printing dated ca. 1750, shows the storied menagerie assembled.

Many thanks to user kosborn4 for completing the correction of the underlying text for the 1800 printing of Reynard the Fox!  Our team is processing his copy of the corrected text, as we do for all the TypeWriters who contribute substantially to a document’s corrected text.

Since the correction of the 1800 document is now moot, I have featured an older version of the Fabulous Reynard, this one printed in 1756.  This edition contains an unsigned Preface, presumably from the printer, and the main text begins on page 8. The printer uses the “long” form of the letter s, which the OCR engine has sometimes recognized, but sometimes has interpreted as f, /, l, t, or some other letter or combination, so keep an eye out for that common error.

Both the printing and the scan of this edition seem to be extraordinarily clean which means many lines will only need to be marked correct after the first reading.  Clean page images can turn text correction into mindless repetition, so stay alert!!

I wish you happy TypeWrighting!  And remember to tell us about your Typewright experience by filling out the survey accessible from the link at the bottom of the TypeWright Instructions section, or by clicking here.
