Greetings and Salutations!
As I have already stated, I am fully aware that you all know 18thConnect much better than I do. Hence, I have started two new discussion threads to tap into the greater knowledge base. Find both these new discussions in the “18thConnect” sub-head in the 18thConnect Forum.
As a “Noobie” to the community, I have questions. As a Folklore scholar, I have arcane questions about best/accepted practices for correcting printed (as opposed to oral) texts. I suppose I could ask these questions on Twitter, (#name_of_document?) but I doubt that the advice would be as extensive as the advice from a discussion on 18thConnect. Find this new discussion forum for questions–and I hope answers!–under the very unoriginal name “TypeWright Correction Questions and Answers.”
I have also come to realize that many of you might have large projects for which we could help boost the “crowd” part of the “crowd-sourcing.” An easy way to accomplish this boost: to be highlighted as the monthly “featured document” in TypeWright!
So… instead of me choosing arbitrary documents by season, or by whatever catches my fancy, or by any number of other quirky and personal criteria, I have started the new discussion titled “TypeWright ‘Featured Item’ Suggestions.” Any 18thConnect member can suggest and discuss items to be featured in the TypeWright section of 18thConnect.
Sowing the seeds of crowd-sourcing, I remain your 18th Century dilettante,
Anne Arundel
I’m excited about the possibilities here and have spent a little time this weekend trying out TypeWright to work on The Plenipotentiary.
I have more basic questions about TypeWright, first just about the project, then about mechanics. Will the crowd-sourced corrected texts make their way back to ECCO, or wherever they came from, or will they only be available here? When is the text “done”–are we having two or three people check a line before it’s “100%”? I found a few lines that had been checked by someone but still needed obvious corrections.
What conventions are we following? If there is a space between a quotation mark or an exclamation point, are we honoring it? (I’ve done a few pages and went ahead and kept them.) Are we keeping catch-words at the bottom of the page or not? How about signature markings? (Again, I assumed yes, but it seems like if we’re crowd-sourcing, this info should be stated at the outset.)
What do we do with pages featuring illustrations? The Plenipotentiary has at least one.
Looking forward to learning more…
Thanks, Angela, for the excellent questions! I will copy them to individual posts, one per question, on the “TypeWright Correction Questions and Answers” which you can find at:

For Angela Vietto and all the other hordes of users waiting with bated breath for answers to her questions…
I have posted answers to the two questions regarding completed documents on the “TypeWright Correction Questions and Answers” page, which you can find here:
