Christina Rossetti

Faculty: Jessica Koch
Group Description:
This course examines literature written by Christina Rossetti, from her most well-known work, "Goblin Market," to her collection of religious poetry. We will explore her literature in relation to literary and historical contexts, that of her own experiences, and of England during the 64 year span of Rossetti's life. We will also discuss the Rossettis' involvement with the Pre-Raphaelite movement and focus on writings and illustrations generated during that time as its own separate tradition. The course is designed to help students appreciate Rossetti's achievements as an acclaimed poetess, as well as to build comprehensive vocabulary for discussing literary texts, and to strengthen critical analysis and writing skills.
